Lucy And Luke
The sharp wind brushed past Lucy’s rosy cheeks, as she chased after her boyfriend Luke and their Sproker Spaniel, Basil, as the trio clambered up Mount Snowden. When she finally caught up to her beloved boys, her eyes fell upon Luke, down on one knee. Sat next to him, a very excitable Basil was wearing a collar that read ‘Will you marry my daddy, mummy?’ With all the glee in the world, a very cold and very animated couple agreed to marry.
5 years beforehand, mutual friends led Luke to message Lucy online; his opening line revolved around cars and these motor heads hit it off straight away. Still as madly in love as the day they met, Lucy and Luke tied the knot in the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Lowdham; the church in which Lucy had been christened. Their special day was stunning, the ‘rustic’ and ‘woodland’ theme was resonated by the decor including log slices, foliage, hessian and accents of copper in the centrepiece lanterns. The groomsmen, the dads and Luke sported a classic British Gentlemen style dressed in their navy tweed suits with brown inflections, which complimented the striking navy blue dresses perfectly worn by Lucy’s beautiful bridesmaids. However, the blushing bride stole the show in her La Sposa wedding gown. Lucy glided down the aisle in her picturesque, sweat-heart neckline, ivory gown, with an elegant soft-lace, off-the-shoulder, ¾-length sleeve. Lucy’s full length veil was lined with a flawless vintage lace, to coordinate seamlessly with the embellished neckline. After a hair trial, Lucy decided to wear a tied up but undone-look hairstyle that showcased the detail of her gown and veil. Searching high and low for a headwear accent that matched the La Sposa gown, Lucy was besotted by the first one she tried on in The Wedding Room, and came back to purchase her perfect final detail, an Ivory and Co’ headpiece.
Were you nervous the night before your wedding, if so, how did you overcome the nerves?
Nope! I didn’t really feel nervous at all, even on the morning I felt pretty chilled out. It was all a bit surreal and I was just so ecstatic and looking forward to getting everything going!
Do you have any top tips on how to get the most out of your photographer?
As I used to work with a wedding photographer I knew the sort of thing I wanted, so when looking at websites I only contacted those that produced the sort of pictures I wanted. We ended up choosing Geoff as we got on with him so well, I also think that’s important as they will be sharing your special day with you! I think if you get on with someone then you’ll work better together. We’d met with Geoff when we booked him and we also opted to have an engagement shoot with him. This was great as it gave us chance to see how he worked and made us a lot more relaxed in front of the camera – we both hate having our pictures taken! Before the wedding we sent him a list of the group shots we wanted on the day. I was confident he’d get the other shots I wanted as I’d seen similar things in his portfolio. We also paid for a second photographer which was great, as while Geoff was with me in the morning she was capturing what the boys were up to.
How did you choose your suppliers?
We chose a couple of them based on recommendation or people I’d seen working before. The rest were booked after finding them online, seeing pictures of their work and making sure we got on with them and were confident they’d deliver what we wanted.
How and why did you select your florist?
We only went to see Sam at The Vanda Vase when we were looking for florists. I took her a few pictures of flowers and bouquets I liked and she got straight away what I was looking for. When we went back to view the flowers she was going to use I was over the moon and the finished products on the day looked incredible.
hat was your favourite flower in your bouquet?
I loved the peachy pink roses that set my bouquet apart from my bridesmaids. Luke wore the same flower as his buttonhole.
What was your favourite moment of your wedding?
I have a few! The first was the car ride to the Church with my dad, we’d had a very chilled morning but the last half an hour or so was a total rush to get ready, it was nice to have half an hour in the car to just relax before the ceremony and hear his words of advice to just ‘take everything in’. The second was after the ceremony when Luke and I were on our way to the Carriage Hall, we stopped en route for a few photos on our own and it was nice to have a few moments together. Lastly, dancing the night away with all our lovely guests!
What is the best piece of advice you could offer another bride?
I’m guessing most brides feel the same, definitely don’t worry about things on the day, little things that go wrong won’t matter to you. Just take everything in and live in the moment. Also, don’t forget to take a moment to really appreciate and take everything in as the day really does go in a flash.
