So what is a major cake trend for 2013? Well it would seem that a key influence for decorations, gowns and cakes is coming from the launch of The Great Gatsby film in May 2013.
The glamour of the 1920s goes very well with the previous trend I talked about – the outdoors wedding venue. So what will your cake creation look like?
Bold colours are not what this is about – subtle, pale coloured icing, silver and bronze subtle decorations. Round or square tiers in a traditional column would suit this style. These scalloped edges are very 1920s…
I think that using ribbon and diamantes in the design on your cake is a winner – it will look fabulous! It’s the richness and opulence that you are looking to achieve. Understated and yet dazzling – how will you achieve this?
Or what about using lace and fabric patterns as inspiration for the design? Up close, your guests will be very impressed by the overall look. Dainty details will show off a pattern, with good lighting to show off your cake masterpiece! Do you think this one looks too beautiful to cut into?
Shop around for recommendations and then ask for sample tastings. This is a lovely activity to do with your groom and / or your mum. Choose a mixture of cakes to suit everyone – at a wedding recently I had the choice of a chocolate and guiness layer or a green tea layer…. both were very yummy!
So until next time, Katrina x
